Bonfire Night 2023

Bonfire Night 2023 at Northampton Sailing Club

It’s taken a while to get around to writing this as the come down from the 4th November has taken a while, and I had to nip off to Germany for the ‘day job’!

Over the weekend of the 4th and 5th November we had 38 National 12’s sailors and around 40 Solo sailors at the club for their open events, which on day one rain stopped play! They literally got one race completed and then had to abandon it and keep fingers crossed for a better Sunday. Many came in and propped the bar up and waited for the rain to stop, and it did………about 30 minutes before we needed to put the fireworks out!

But the amazing team of Steve, Tom, Ricky, Christian and Pip managed to get everything out and setup just before dark.

Then the onslaught of members, friends, family, and neighbours (and some say most of Brixworth), they just kept coming, fortunately we managed to get everyone parked up without incident and even had a few spaces left! Then we gave the go ahead for the display to start and after a musical prelude the main event took place….and boy was it spectacular!!

The show was a-maz-ing as Craig RH would say on Strictly. Steve, you did an awesome job again this year, thank you for the hours of effort writing and rewriting it until you were just about happy with it – we all loved it, which just leaves next year……

My HUGE thanks go to the Pyromaniac Firework team – Steve, Ricky, Christian, Tom P and Pip, to Chris for eventually teasing the bonfire into the towering inferno it became, to Martin Neale our hero in a hi-vis who helped organise all the cars into parking spaces, to Seemab, Emma K, Laura, Vicky, Rachel, Claire, Maria, Tom, Maxx and anyone else that I missed who helped with the two bars – I know it was manic but you all did brilliantly and our apologies if you had to wait a while for a drink! To Owen for video footage of the event, Ann and Maxx for helping to clear up, Niall for coming back in the morning and collecting 40,000 sparkler sticks LOL and to Sarah, Martin, Mel and Sarah’s mum for getting everyone fed (two tills then next year!) – well done everyone, I think we probably had around 600-700 people on site and you all did an amazing job x

So to wrap this up, please see the video below which for anyone who missed the event you now get warm ringside seats to watch it happen….although it’s MUCH better in person!!

You all rock, thank you again, Sarah x
