About Us
Northampton Sailing Club is a friendly, enthusiastic club, situated at Pitsford Reservoir in beautiful Northamptonshire, offering sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), kayaking, competitive class racing, coaching, kids club, and training courses, as well as a vibrant social calendar. The club is entirely run by member volunteers.

Pitsford itself is a large, 600 acre reservoir with outstanding views. You can sail every day from dawn to dusk, with racing organised on Sundays and on Thursday evenings. Adult sailboat coaching and the kids’ Pirates club takes place every Wednesday throughout the warmer months, both popular activities included free with membership. SUP’ing and kayaking get their real social focus on Friday evenings, but come along at any time and you will usually see someone out enjoying the water. It’s about having fun, gaining water confidence, improving on-the-water skills, building rivalries and friendships.
We have a licensed bar, fresh food in the galley, hot showers, changing rooms, and plenty of space for camping tents, caravans and camper vans on site. Boats, SUPs and windsurfing kit can all be hired, with buoyancy aids, wetsuits and helmets free to borrow if you need them.
If you have never windsurfed before and fancy giving it a try, or you just feel your sailing skills have got a little rusty, book a training course with our Senior Instructor (SI) who will quickly get you up to speed. As an RYA recognised training centre our courses are high quality, safe and professional. Our SI is dedicated to upskilling our volunteers, keeping us up to date with the latest RYA training methods, safety boat skills, and advice.
For those who prefer not to get their feet wet, our social membership provides access to all our facilities and social events. Set within Brixworth Country Park, we have unrivalled views across the lake, wildlife aplenty and a 7 mile walking or cycling route around the lake starting at our gate, or simply grab a book from the book exchange and relax on the veranda!
We’re proud of our heritage here at Northampton Sailing Club. Since Anglian Water Authority first approved the reservoir for sailing use back in 1956, we have seen the club grow in both numbers and prestige. We count Olympic, World and National Champions amongst our numbers and welcome members from across Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Bucks and beyond.
