Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
SUP’ing has fast become the most popular activity at NSC with members new and old enjoying the simplicity of being able to get afloat with just a board, buoyancy aid and paddle. As a sport it is quick to pick up and fun for all the family. Whether you are relaxing or racing it is brilliant fun and a great low-impact exercise, working your core muscles.
For those who are keen, there are a number of distance courses (1k, 3k, 5k) to challenge yourself against the distance, the clock and your friends on Strava. Boards can be hired from the club. Wetsuits and buoyancy aids are available to borrow for free. Please just rinse and return after use.
Because it can definitely feel like a workout inflating our boards to pressure before we’ve actually set out on the water, we have now installed an air compressor on the side of the club house, available to inflate your SUP with ease and preserving your arm strength for paddling in the process!
The reservoir is open for use from dawn to dusk every day, ideal for those early risers wanting to take advantage of clear skies and calm water. Many of our members make a weekend of it, starting with Friday SUP night and camping to make the most of the weekend’s weather conditions.
Friday SUP nights are our informal weekly gatherings open to all club members whether they are SUP’ing, kayaking or out using sails. The club BBQs are available for use, so bring a picnic and relax with like-minded friends enjoying the view across Pitsford Water.
The club SUP community has an active WhatsApp group to stay in touch and let others know when they’re out and about. Please let us know if you would like to be added.
Taster training sessions are available. Please see the training section of the website.
