Windsurfing

Is one of NSC’s most popular activities. From our expert members taking advantage of dawn-til-dusk access to blast across the water in high winds to those who are just developing their skills, NSC is a great location for windsurfing. 

Pitsford is the largest body of water in a 25-mile radius and is particularly good for windsurfing in the prevailing SW or NE winds and Northampton Sailing Club is privileged to have access to it.  The windsurfing beach lies at the north end of the club and is equipped with an astro turf rigging area and spray-down hose. Wetsuits, helmets and lifejackets can all be borrowed from the club. For just a small annual fee you can take advantage of the windsurf trailer storage area and keep all your kit at hand; a major benefit for all us bimblers! 

There is plenty of space for camping too, which many of our members do either in tents, camper or caravans, meaning they can make a weekend of it, getting out in the gusts and resting in the lulls. Access to the water in all daylight hours means you really can make the most of the ideal conditions. 

On Wednesday evenings we have youth training for 8 to 16 year olds with the Pitsford Pirates, and club members are invited to join in too for added coaching advice. The beach shelves gently for easy water entry for those just starting in the sport, but when it’s windy, regardless of the time of year, there’s always activity on the windsurfing beach!  We boast some top windsurfers as members, some with great UKWA results and speed sailing achievements. Our club windsurfers are very happy to have a chat about all things windsurfing.
