We hosted the fifth round of the P&B Northamptonshire Youth Series here at Northampton Sailing Club on Saturday 13th July. Competitors and their families were met with a warm welcome, and dry cloudy conditions with light winds in the morning. The coaching team, of Alex, Keeli, Isaac and Max led the training session before everyone came in for a hearty lunch provided by Martin and Sarah in the galley.
The sun came out for a while and the wind picked up for some exciting racing in the afternoon. Thirty-seven boats took part, divided between fast, slow and topper fleets.
Race officer Paul set a trapezoid course and as the wind shifted during the races, some of the legs became a bit tighter than expected.
Draycote Water Sailing Club secured a first, second and third in the fast fleet from Jasper, Noah and Peter respectively.
Harry from Cransley Sailing Club came first in the slow fleet, with Finn from Hollowell Sailing Club second and Joshua from Middle Nene Sailing Club third.
The Topper fleet was won by James from Notts County Sailing Club, with Frederick from Draycote in second place and Charlie from Northampton in third.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and thanks go to all the members of Northampton Sailing Club and the Northamptonshire Youth Series who helped to make it happen.
