We Celebrated in Style

Thank you to everyone who helped to make our World Sailing Day event on Thursday 28th May such success. We put the flags out and celebrated our sport in style.

The aim was to involve as many as people as possible in our regular Thursday evening handicap race, but with the focus on fun just as much as competition. There were 18 boats signed on as well as others on the water.

It was a warm, breezy evening and race officers Richard and Jose set a course taking in most of the marks – so everyone had a good trip around the reservoir a few times!

Thank you to FM Sailing who kindly sponsored the event and donated the prizes awarded on the night. Points also counted towards the early Thursday series, where applicable.

The winners were:

Overall  – Rory Odell and Olly Davenport in a Fireball

Junior  –  Oliver Gover in an ILCA 7

Family – Miles and Sandra Odell in a GP14

The fancy dress idea went down so well at the Colander Cup that we borrowed it for World Sailing Day and it didn’t disappoint! Congratulations go to Giles and Serena Durrell for winning the fancy dress competition dressed as the ‘athletes’ from the 118 advertisement. And a special mention has to go our wonderful safety team who all turned out in their Baywatch kit!

There was a great atmosphere at the club and thanks also go to Martin in the galley, Ricky in the bar and to Sarah for compiling all the results.
